JOYFUL! =)))
As you all can see from the photos above, they are taken from the 1st session of Nurture Programme for the month of December. Today, I was supposed to go Sentosa for frisbee, but due to the overnight mahjong last night, I could not wake up and ended up going for Nurture Programme and service. Anyway, on my way there, I was asking myself whether I still have what it takes to deal with kids, just like how I dealt with kids last time during my instructor days. However, I have faith that it's God's calling for me to serve in the Kids' ministry; thus, I believed that He will give me the strength and confidence to deal with the kids.
Just to share a bit more, the kids that come for Nurture Programme are from dysfunctional families; thus, they may lack in certain areas as compared to kids coming from close-knit families. Therefore, they require more special attention and care. While waiting for the kids to come, it began to rain heavily. LeYi, the in-charge for today, was worried that the kids will not come. But due to God's grace, the rain stopped at 3pm and guess what? ALL 7 kids came for the session today, which was really very comforting and encouraging! =)
I proceeded with the ice-breakers; whereby we played the SPLAT game. They were pretty entertained, but I think they were more amused by my nickname, POTATO. HAHA! After a few rounds of SPLAT, there were 3 people who got to do forfeit; thus, I asked them to do Chicken Dance. It was very entertaining, and they could not stop laughing when we had to shake our backsides.
After my ice-breakers, we proceeded to acting out certain scenarios to depict bad manners, and asked the kids to identify and correct the bad manners. They were pretty engaged, which was really good as their average age is only about 9 years old; whereby it means their attention span is very short. After the scenario acting, YueAnn was up next to do his animated story-telling. He used the Charlie the Crocodile story to teach the kids the importance of brushing their teeth daily. He was really good in engaging them and entertaining them too.
We ended up with doing the "Here at Leng Kee CC(instead of Jalan Bahtera), we do it with our ...", which made the kids LOL when it comes to doing it with our backsides. HAHA! =)
Overall, I really enjoyed myself at the session and looking forward to the next session. I really believe and have faith that this is God's calling for me, to serve in the Kids' Ministry, and impact the lives of the kids, just like how I did when I was a camp instructor. Having fun with the kids is like reliving the instructor days...
Anyway, I'm visiting the Kids service tomorrow with YueAnn, which is held at Holiday Inn Hotel. I'm really excited for tomorrow, but also feel very sad cos YueAnn told me that a 8 year old boy from HOPE Kids passed away due to liver cancer; thus, he said tomorrow's service will be a more solemn one. To think that such a young boy had lost his life due to illness, I strongly believe that he is definitely in God's arms now, and who knows? Probably God has much better plans for him up there. Faced with this kind of situation, really makes me feel that life is indeed fragile.
